Ensemble Classes

Grow together with music.

Performing, listening and growing together

Develop coordination, listening, responsibility and a sense of group.
The Ensemble Classes offered by the Setúbal Regional Conservatory aim to provide students with hands-on experience in collective performance, developing skills in musical coordination, teamwork, active listening, and artistic expression. Throughout the school year, these classes strengthen discipline, responsibility, and a sense of belonging—key elements in a student’s musical education.

Levels 1 and 2 — Choir

In Levels 1 and 2, the curricular ensemble class is the Choir, led by Raul Avelãs, Jelena Bogatirjova, and Sofia Amorim, with participation from all students in these levels. This group experience helps consolidate essential foundations such as intonation, rhythm, breathing, listening skills, and articulation in a motivating and collaborative environment.

Levels 3 to 8 — Ensemble Classes at the Setúbal Regional Conservatory

From Level 3 to Level 8, the curricular ensemble classes at the Setúbal Regional Conservatory are:

Wind Orchestra — Prof. Pedro Rego

Classical Orchestra — Prof. Jorge Vinhas

Guitar Orchestra — Prof. Gonçalo Gouveia

Percussion Ensemble — Prof. Pedro Carvalho

Choir — Prof. Raul Avelãs, Prof.ª Jelena Bogatirjova e Prof.ª Sofia Amorim

These ensembles allow students to apply, in a real performance setting, the technical and musical knowledge acquired in individual lessons. They work on a varied repertoire while developing the ability to follow a conductor, adjust their interpretation to the group, and grow artistically through ensemble practice.

Choir — Who attends?

The Choir is attended by Piano and Voice students and is also an integral part of the curriculum for students of Wind Instruments, Percussion, Plucked Strings, and Bowed Strings, who attend one weekly choir session. This component is essential to strengthen overall musicianship, harmonic awareness, and listening skills, with a direct impact on individual performance and the artistic quality of the ensemble.
