Structured introduction to the world of music.
Develops listening, rhythm, expression, instrumental practice and group work.
Music Initiation (Primary School – Grades 1 to 4) at the Setúbal Regional Conservatory is open to all students attending primary education. The main goal is to provide a first structured approach to music, developing aural, rhythmic and expressive skills, as well as encouraging an interest in instrument practice and ensemble work.
Throughout the course, children develop active listening, a sense of rhythm and musical expression in a stimulating, collaborative environment. Learning takes place through experimentation, movement, singing and instrument practice, valuing creativity and active participation.
The programme includes three main components:
Musicianship / Music Theory (1 weekly lesson)
Ensemble Classes (1 weekly lesson)
Instrument (*)
(*) Instrument lessons may be individual (1 weekly lesson) or shared by two students (1 weekly lesson with 2 students).
Musicianship and Ensemble Classes take place in a group/class setting, promoting socialisation, teamwork and the development of active listening.
Each lesson lasts 45 minutes.
Internal students at the Setúbal Regional Conservatory who attend the Initiation Course and wish to progress to the Basic Music Course complete their entry evaluation in the 3rd term, through the global assessments in Music Initiation and Instrument.
Internal candidates who achieve 90% or higher (Very Good) will be ranked by the average of the results obtained in those subjects.
Internal candidates who score below 90% must take the entry exams together with external candidates.
Candidates who wish to change instrument must take the instrumental aptitude test together with external candidates and will be ranked by the average results in Music Initiation and Instrument.
Applications from internal students require completion of the Initiation Course, including attendance of the three core subjects, with an application deadline by the end of December of the same academic year.
