Early sound experiences for the whole family.
Early musical stimulation, with active parental participation.
Music for Babies (ages 0–2) at the Setúbal Regional Conservatory is designed to support children from the very beginning through a rich, warm and family-centred musical experience. Research across areas such as neurology, paediatrics, biology and psychology highlights the importance of early musical stimulation, as early exposure helps support how auditory and musical skills develop.
At this stage, parents play a key role—they are the child’s ideal teachers. Even without strong musical skills, parents can (and should) take an active part, helping babies feel comfortable with musical language in the same way they become comfortable with spoken language.
In the Parent-and-Baby sessions at the Setúbal Conservatory, children are encouraged to:
Develop the ability to “think musically” (audiation);
Become familiar with musical language;
Build a broad melodic and rhythmic musical vocabulary;
Explore movement as a natural part of musical learning.
The goal is not to turn babies into professional musicians, although they gain important foundations if they choose that path later, but rather to support more complete, balanced development.
Sessions include a wide musical variety, both rhythmic and melodic, so babies experience different patterns and build a diverse musical vocabulary. Movement is strongly explored, helping children connect with pulse, rhythm and expression in a natural way. Parents are also guided with practical strategies so they can, even with limited musical experience, continue to stimulate their child musically at home and in everyday life.
