The story of a school where music has become tradition, inspiration, and future.
A story shaped by music, dedication, and talent.
Discover the origins of the Regional Conservatory of Setúbal.
The Regional Conservatory of Setúbal is a Specialized Music Education School under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, through the Office for Private and Cooperative Education, and is part of the network of secondary education schools.
Holding Public Utility status and endowed with Pedagogical Autonomy, it offers the Basic Music Course and the Secondary Courses in Instrument, Music Theory, Composition, and Singing, welcoming more than 500 students each year, guided by a teaching staff of around 50 fully qualified teachers who are permanently committed to raising the quality of education in order to provide students with the development of all their artistic abilities.
It was founded in 1988, arising from the recognition that there was no school specifically dedicated to specialized music education in the district of Setúbal. Among its key promoters, special mention should be made of the distinguished pedagogue Professor Maria Adelaide Rosado Pinto, who made a significant contribution to the artistic, cultural, and heritage enrichment of the city of Setúbal.
Throughout its history, the Regional Conservatory of Setúbal has provided music education to thousands of students of all age groups, contributing to their human, cultural, and artistic development. Many of them are now part of society as professionals or amateurs in a wide variety of musical fields, having won prizes in competitions and completed undergraduate and master’s degrees in different Higher Music Education programmes, as well as joined various orchestras in Portugal and abroad.
In addition to its school activities, the Regional Conservatory of Music of Setúbal has sought to contribute to the cultural and artistic development of the community in which it operates, collaborating with a wide range of public and private institutions and taking part in several organising committees for renowned musical events.
Each year, it presents a wide-ranging programme of musical activities held in various cultural venues, not only in the city of Setúbal, but also in other parts of the country and abroad, particularly in Spain. By way of example, its participation in the following events stands out:
